The Onnit Academy is a world-renowned fitness facility that places a heavy emphasis on unconventional training.
I spent a day working out at their facility and enjoyed the opportunity to play around with some of their products and unconventional training tools.
Of note is the adoption of DeFranco’s Gym, another world-class training facility that is fully integrated into the Onnit Academy. It is unconventional-functional meets conventional-proven, all under the same roof.
The place is oozing with awesomeness and permeates an aura of physicality.
When I first arrived, I immediately noticed that there was some serious training going on. Heavy squats. Swinging ape faced primal bells intensely. Tactically wielding steel maces.
It became instantly obvious that this was a gym for real training and not one for casual workouts. The people that trained here were looking to become masters of their craft.
It is a place people go to train when they become intensely focused on a goal — a home for those absorbed by a singular passion for optimal performance.
Training under the banner of Joe Rogan. My favorite comedian, podcaster, and general badass guy.
After exploring the space, I signed up for an unconventional fitness class.
Their typical workout formula looks similar to what we did:
Mobility- 10 minutes
Conditioning Set- 10 minutes (we did 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest of Airdyne sprints and sandbag cleans)
Movement Prep- 10 minutes (we did 10 rounds of a hybrid hip-opening stretch and a core exercise very similar to slow reverse situp)
Primary Set- 10 minutes (we did 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest of double kettlebell squats to press)
Cool Down- 10 minutes (we did 10 rounds of a 90/90 hip-opening sequence and scorpion holds)
I felt like it was a tough workout but in a way that was too much, which left me adequately primed for follow on workouts.
The incorporation of the mobility exercises was unique to me, yet it didn’t feel overly mundane or unimportant. The way the mobility movements were organized made it so that it was functional and purposeful.
I enjoyed the experience as it was vastly different from what I normally do. Like all great artists of the world, I am going to steal some of the ideas I learned. I will take the best of what I learned, and incorporate it into my own workouts. At a minimum, I will look for creative ways to incorporate mobility movements that has me primed for the workout.

I do agree with all the ideas you have presented in your post.
They are very convincing and will definitely work. Still,
the posts are too brief for starters. Could you please lengthen them a bit
from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
