“Why Men Love War”

January 25, 2019 by J.R. Cambo Leave a Comment

There is something primal about war.

Men were meant to fight. We thrive in an environment where violence trumps passivity.

Deep within our biological makeup is a tendency to fight. We must hunt, kill, win, and mate.

This instinct has driven the evolution of mankind.

But despite the outlets of today’s environment- men must fight. We must aim to compete and conquer.

Biology makes us. And war, it shapes us.

What most people can’t understand,” Heirs said, gently picking up each tiny rabbit and placing it in the nest, “is how much fun Vietnam was. I loved it. I loved it, and I can’t tell anybody.

What It Takes to be Number One by Vince Lombardi

November 23, 2018 by Tony Francisco Leave a Comment

Winning is a life quest. Whether we like it or not, life is a competition. We are constantly competing against something. Many times, the battle is within us, as we aim to conquer our hedonistic pursuits, our soft minds, and our mediocre existence.

The very act of chasing wins is the process that propels excellence. We don’t always finish first, but we always make progress. We either win or we learn. We are never failing.

We are chasing that “all the time thing” that is the pursuit of victory.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE NUMBER ONE

by Vince Lombardi

Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that’s first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don’t ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win.

Every time a football player goes to ply his trade he’s got to play from the ground up – from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That’s O.K. You’ve got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you’ve got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you’re lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he’s never going to come off the field second.

Running a football team is no different than running any other kind of organization – an army, a political party or a business. The principles are the same. The object is to win – to beat the other guy. Maybe that sounds hard or cruel. I don’t think it is.

It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That’s why they are there – to compete. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules – but to win.

And in truth, I’ve never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn’t appreciate the grind, the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat.

I don’t say these things because I believe in the ‘brute’ nature of men or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour — his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear — is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.

My Definite Chief Aim

October 10, 2018 by J.R. Cambo Leave a Comment

There is a lot to be said about the power of a vision.

The power of something that drives us to excel.

Humans need a passion. Something to obsess over, to satisfy our primal urge for conquest. Deeply ingrained within our DNA is a craftsman mentality, the subconscious need to build something great.

Without it, we are lost. We are seekers of distraction. We chase things since it gives us a moment of pleasure. But then it is rust and we are lost once again.

Society is plagued by a lack of vision.

Comfort is the root of this pain and we must seek to banish it forever.

I recently learned that Bruce Lee was an avid reader. A man of manic energy, suppressed by the power of a book.  [Read more…]

Autobiography by Portia Nelson

Guru’s seem to love talking about the power of meditation.

But is it really the act of sitting idly, fighting to control the primal urge to do anything but?

Or is the ability to control and direct one’s thoughts?

Or is it the simple ability to do it every day, consistently, that yields power over time?

At some level, it must also be the ability to self-reflect, to learn from one’s actions, to control and direct our lives.

So perhaps, beyond the act of meditation, the real lesson is to constantly self reflect. When we look deep within ourselves, we find answers to what lies on the surface.

The Impact Theory Belief System

August 20, 2018 by Tony Francisco Leave a Comment

I remember seeing Tom Bilyeu of Impact Theory at Santa Monica during a little talk called, “The Entrepreneur’s Mindset.” It was powerful (the word ’empowering’ is not welcome on this blog – we create our own power), leading me down a long road exploring each of his talks on YouTube.

There is immense value in listening to stories of how successful people reached their pinnacle.

Many times you will find that successful people were once regular people.

They went from ordinary to extraordinary by cultivating a deep belief in themselves and then by taking massive action in spite of the nagging naysayers.

Embedded within each episode of Impact Theory is a key to becoming powerful. You are what you think and you are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with, but you can’t always surround yourself with the best thinkers and doers.

That’s why podcasts and shows like Impact Theory are so critical, they can give you the environment that you need using technology. [Read more…]
