General George Washington on Being Bold

In today’s society, boldness is simultaneously frowned upon and revered. It’s a characteristic that we secretly admire but openly dismiss.

We say: That wasn’t a very classy thing to do.

We think: That was a bold move. Amazing.

Why is boldness such a complex characteristic?

Because we have been programmed, from a very young age, to be proper and do what is nice. We are told ‘no’ over 40,000 times by the time we are five years old.

The Strenuous Life

On April 10, 1899, President Theodore Roosevelt gave a speech called The Strenuous Life.

It was a speech based on his personal experiences and one meant to inspire action in a nation that was quickly becoming soft.

Today, this speech would be even more prevalent. Although, he would most assuredly be trashed on social media by the SJWs of the world. He would be criticized for advocating war and he would be mocked for proposing a life filled with strife and effort. 

I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of toil and effort, of labor and strife; to preach that highest form of success which comes, not to the man who desires mere easy peace, but to the man who does not shrink from danger, from hardship, or from bitter toil, and who out of these wins the splendid ultimate triumph. Reinventing Yourself

I recently drove from Texas to California and I needed a good book to listen to. During long road trips, I like to listen to stories that will inspire me to become better a person in some way. For this particular journey, I chose to listen to the Empire of the Summer Moon. It was broadly about the Comanche Indian Warrior but it also did a good job illuminating the fight for Texas and how the expansion westward ultimately led to the demise of Native America’s most powerful fighting force.
