No Zero Days

I had a rough day.

I spent the weekend hustling away on my computer. Working through the night for three consecutive days, with no regard for the time or much else —I was singularly focused on getting shit done.

Outworking the competition and becoming an authority has its downsides when you are still making ends meet at a 9-5.

With practically no sleep and still slightly dazed from 36 hours of staring at a computer screen, I powered through a full day of work. I then came home and immediately keeled over for a two-hour nap…

It sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to do, except that I committed to a No Zero Day mentality. I committed to a slight edge philosophy that is based on making small incremental progress every single day.

I awakened from my stupor and immediately pulled out one of the three books that I am currently reading and started working through the pages. A minimum productive day is 15 pages of reading.

Reading, taking notes, learning, and plotting — those are the absolute bare minimums.

I must admit, the No Zero Day philosophy is not an original thought. I first came across the concept on a Reddit thread. The original post wasn’t even its own thread, it was just a response to another post.

“Rule numero uno – There are no more zero days. What’s a zero-day? A zero-day is when you don’t do a single fucking thing towards whatever dream or goal or want or whatever that you got going on. No more zeros. I’m not saying you gotta bust an essay out every day, that’s not the point. The point I’m trying to make is that you have to make yourself, promise yourself, that the new SYSTEM you live in is a NON-ZERO system. Didnt’ do anything all fucking day and it’s 11:58 PM? Write one sentence. One pushup. Read one page of that chapter. One. Because one is non zero. You feel me? When you’re in the super vortex of being bummed your pattern of behaviour is keeping the vortex going, that’s what you’re used to. Turning into productivity ultimate master of the universe doesn’t happen from the vortex. It happens from a massive string of CONSISTENT NON ZEROS. That’s rule number one. Do not forget.”

MY FAVORITE LINE

Turning into productivity ultimate master of the universe doesn’t happen from the vortex. It happens from a massive string of consistent Non Zeros.

That’s why I sprung to my feet, slightly dazzled and ready to work.

What I am seeking won’t come from a vortex, it will come from a consistent string of No Zero Days.

Onward,

Chief
